Nine Year Old Tom on Course to Complete All The Wainwrights in Under a Year
Tom, from Rotheram, is closing in on an incredibly impressive feat - climbing all the Wainwrights in under a year, at just nine years old!
Tom is raising money for The Sick Children’s Trust who cared for his sister Lily - he’s currently raised over £800. Lily was born with no diaphragm, her intestines were in her heart and lungs. Toms parents we were supported by the trust, as the doctors worked to make Lily better. Today Lily too takes part in some of Tom’s hikes.
Tom first started hiking by climbing Snowdon at just five years old, hiking the whole distance to the peak and back in minus 2 winter conditions. He’s since completed the National Three Peaks has climbed the all Welsh 3000s individually, with plans to undertake the 24 hour challenge in may.
Travelling up to the Lakes from Yorkshire at the weekends, Tom doesn’t shy away from getting up at 04:30 on a Saturday morning for an 08:00 start.
‘His eyes light up when he sees the mountains, and we were up Armboth in the storms the other week, he was buzzing. We were saturated, smiling, and he said it was best adventure yet!’ say Tom’s dad.
Tom is due to finish his challenge towards the end of March and will do so by climbing Catstycam where he’s hoping to be presented with his completers medal by Patterdale Mountain Rescue. You can follow Tom’s progress on his YouTube here.
