Wasdale Emerald Pool (Fairy Pool) (Including Parking & GPX File)

Please remember that all the natural swim spots in the Lake District are dangerous, wild places. Visit them at your own risk. Please also remember to respect these places and others using them, and take any rubbish away with you and leave no trace.

The Wasdale Emerald Pool (also known as Wasdale Fairy Pool - due to its likeness to those on the Isle of Skye) is a gorgeous turquoise pool beneath two mini waterfalls & a natural rock pyramid.

Where to park for Wasdale Emerald Pool (Fairy Pool)?

Free parking is available at Wasdale Head but on busy days this gets full very early. Other options are available further up the valley but will add a good deal of time onto your walk.

How to find Wasdale Emerald Pool (Fairy Pool)?

Finding the falls is pretty straightforward. Head out of the top end of the carpark (the opposite end from the lake) and head up the farm track towards Great Gable (the big pyramid shaped mountain in the distance).

Follow this track until you get to the farm and take a left (signposted) through the farm before continuing up the valley.

If you’re heading the right way you’ll cross a long wooden footbridge. Make sure you keep straight after this (don’t take the path up to your left). After a couple of hundred meter the path starts to climb up along the side of Great Gable. At this point you need to take a right (best shown in my video - 1:20). From here just stick as closely to river as you can while following the path and you’ll come to the pool after about 700 meters. Enjoy!
