The Lake District Might Be Getting an Airport

Get ready for takeoff, folks! The new owner of Carlisle Lake District Airport has announced a multimillion-pound investment as it officially takes control of the site.

AW Jenkinson Group has landed, taking over from the previous owner, Esken.

They're committing a cool £5 million to create "quality sustainable jobs." While the old owners couldn't lock in a deal for commercial flights, AW Jenkinson is keeping us in suspense about whether they'll launch new routes.

Back in 2019, under Stobart Group's command, Scottish airline Loganair offered flights from Carlisle to Dublin, Belfast, and London Southend. But those flights didn't return after the pandemic hit.

Now, a spokesman for AW Jenkinson confirmed the company is now in charge of the airport, including all the leased buildings on the site, with plans to give it a new "economic purpose." We excitedly await more updates as they are announced!
